ABPM(Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring Test) is a new way to assess an individual’s blood pressure. The blood pressure is calibrated while performing routine tasks instead of in a clinical setting. ABPM helps to determine whether the person is really struggling with Hypertension. The process is performed using a specific device: a blood pressure cuff placed on your arm. Also, a small wearing device is connected to the belt, and wear the entire device for almost 24 to 48 hours. The blood pressure is calculated while performing day-to-day activities and during sleep. You get complete information related to your blood pressure in a day or two. Therefore, the information provided by ABPM is different from the one assessed in the doctor’s office.Things to Keep in Mind Before Taking the Test
When the machine is about to take the reading, it will alert you. If this happens, do the following things:- Sit down if possible
- The cuff must be placed at an equal level to the heart
- Place your arm still
- Avoid talking or sitting with crossed legs while the examination is taking place
